Reserves Set For Magpies Cup Test

27 October 2016

Pools Reserves are in action on Friday afternoon when they make the trip to Newcastle United in their next group game in the Central League Cup (1pm kick-off).

Sam Collins’ men will be looking to protect a perfect start to the new campaign when they face The Magpies, having won all five of their games so far this season.

Pools sit top of their Central League group having beaten Bradford City 5-0 in their first fixture and another win on Friday would all but confirm their passage to the knockout stage of the competition.

“The incentive is there for them in terms of making progress in this cup,” Collins told us.

“But really, I just want them to keep doing what they’ve been doing because I think we’ve won nine out of our last ten games now – the lads have been brilliant.

“It’s a great record but obviously, as much as I want to win, the major thing for me is that the players keep on developing and seeing them do that has been the most pleasing thing for me.”

The game is being played at the Newcastle United Academy in Little Benton and entry to supporters is free of charge.
