Ladies Win Again To Maintain Strong Start

3 October 2016

Hartlepool United Ladies stretched their unbeaten league run to an astonishing 18 games with an impressive 4-0 thumping of York City Reserves on Sunday afternoon.

Andy Stuart’s team have started the new campaign in top form following last season’s promotion and wasted little time showing York why they’re one of the early pace-setters.

Jess Dawson struck the first blow midway through the first half when she chased on to a neat through ball before drilling a calm finish past the keeper to make it 1-0.

Just before the half hour mark Pools doubled their lead when the in-form Sarah Bartlett played an incisive one-two on the edge of the box before chipping the stranded York keeper with a brilliant finish.
It was 3-0 not long afterwards and it was Dawson again who did the damage; this time she easily outpaced the visiting defence before showing the composure to round the keeper and convert.

There was even time for Pools to score a fourth goal before the break when the hard-working Jade Pye got her rewards with a great turn and finish from the edge of the penalty area.

The 4-0 lead meant Stuart could afford to shuffle his pack at half time, while York came determined to keep Pools at bay in the second half and defended much better.

And City could even have pulled a goal back during the second period only for Pools’ debutant keeper Jess Geohagen to pull off an outstanding save to protect the clean sheet.
“We are getting a consistent and professional level of performance from the girls every week now,” Stuart explained after the game.

“Confidence is obviously increasing quickly and we look a very good team so we have to take to a run of three huge games we have coming up.

“There will be some real tests ahead in the league and the cup so we will need to maintain our level of performance if we’re to continue this fine start to the season.”
