Hartlepool United Ladies bounced back to form in emphatic fashion on Sunday by running out 8-1 winners at Guisborough Ladies.
Andy Stuart’s girls set the tone early on, registering their first shot on goal after just ten seconds – and the pressure continued to build from there as they took a grip of the game.
Guisborough held Pools off until the 18th minute when a Jenni Duffy-Smith corner from the right found Sarah Rowbotham in space and she nodded in the opening goal.
Another Duffy-Smith corner caused problems for the hosts five minutes later, this time the ball went straight in to the net without any touch to make it 2-0.
Ten minutes before the break Pools extended their lead further when some neat play involving Faye Garside and Caitlin Bates saw Jess Dawson escape through on goal to smash the third goal.
Guisborough did manage to pull one back but Pools underlined their superiority by hitting the net twice more before half-time to race in to a 5-1 lead at the interval.
First Bartlett and Duffy-Smith combined brilliantly to set Bates through on goal and she out-paced the home defence before producing a confident finish past the keeper.
Then came the goal of the game right on the stroke of half-time; keeper Jess Geohegan threw the ball out to Garside who exchanged passes with Jo Hurrell, Emily Stuart and Sarah Rowbotham to release Dawson over the top and she ran twenty yards to slot the ball past the keeper.
Pools were able to shuffle their pack during the break with a number of substitutions but they still came out with real intensity for the second period.
The half was only a minute old when Chris Corner announced her arrival in the game by controlling the ball and turning to finish, making it 6-1 to Pools.
Hurrell then added a seventh goal for Pools when she was moved in to an unorthodox striking role but produced an excellent finish just prior to the hour mark.
And the scoring was rounded-off in the 61st minute when Corner helped herself to her second of the game, pouncing on a loose ball as Guisborough failed to clear a dangerous corner.
“It’s great to see the girls get back to winning ways,” admitted boss Stuart afterwards.
“We’ve got a game against Prudhoe coming up know which we need to focus on and get things right ahead of our big FA Cup game against Accrington on 13th November.”
