Hignett Pleased For Players After Win

1 October 2016

“It was far from perfect but it was excellent,” was Craig Hignett’s assessment after seeing his side beat Grimsby Town 3-0.

after the game.  Pools PlayerHD“I’m a bit of a perfectionist but to come here when Grimsby are playing like they are and they’re sixth in the league and do that, obviously I’m really pleased and so are the lads,” the Manager told

“It was always the case that Podge was going to be a thorn in their side. It’s one of those things, you always have grounds that you do well at and Podge has obviously scored a bucket load of goals here and thankfully that didn’t stop today.

“And then Nathan picks the ball up and you half know what he’s going to do because he said to us today that he was going to do that.

“He did it in training last week and to go and do it in the game is phenomenal. It was an unbelievable finish.

It wasn’t just the goalscorers who took the Manager’s praise this afternoon though as he declared it a real team performance,

“In the second half the next goal was going to be important in the game, if we conceded it, it might have been backs to the wall. When you ask your keeper to put his body in the way and then he does that two or three times – and how he did it, it was incredible.

“Everyone played their part. We’ve managed the game a lot better today. We cleared our lines and got up and we looked good doing it.

“I’m really pleased for the players.”
