Pools Youth Team will play one of their biggest games of the season on Saturday lunchtime when they travel to face Port Vale in the quarter-finals of the Youth Alliance Cup.
Having made solid progress from the group stage of the competition, John Hewitson’s youngsters are now gearing-up for their first knockout encounter and hopes are high of a victory.
The Valiants currently sit in 7th place in the North West Division so Pools know they will have a difficult test in front of them but Hewitson says they can approach the game with confidence.
“It’s a massive game for us and we’re really looking forward to it,” he told us.
“Perhaps we’ve been a bit naïve as a team in previous games and showed our inexperience but I know the lads have learned lessons from recent weeks and can now start to show more consistency.
“They’ll be raring to go when the whistle blows because this is a quarter-final and we want to be doing better in cup competitions so this is our chance.
“We have to show the same heart we did in the victories over Preston and York earlier in the tournament and if we do that then there’s no reason we can’t make progress again.”
The game takes place at Vale Park at 12noon on Saturday and we’ll have a full report here on the Official Website on Monday morning.
Meanwhile, the Academy's Under 10s, 12s, 14s and 15/16s away games at Grimsby Town on Sunday have all been cancelled due to bad weather.
