Reserves Suffer First League Defeat

15 November 2016

Pools Reserves slumped to their first Central League defeat of the season as Grimsby Town ran out 5-0 winners in Tuesday afternoon’s game at Blundell Park.

The match was only fifteen minutes old when the hosts went in front when Bolarinwa found enough space to send an angled drive across Ben Dudzinski and in to the corner of the net.

The Mariners were in no mood to relax on their laurels either and had further chances through Tom Bolarinwa, Pearson and Browne but Pools just about kept them at bay.

However, Town doubled their lead on the stroke of half-time; Rhys Browne was fouled in the area and he got up to take the spot-kick and, although his first effort was parried by Dudzinski, he was able to score from the rebound.

It got worse for Pools a couple of minutes in to the second half when Vose fed the ball in to Bolarinwa and he turned to slide the ball across for Shaun Tuton to apply the finishing touch and make it 3-0.

Jake Orrell had a half chance to pull one back for Pools ten minutes later when he sent a shot on goal but it was well held by the Grimsby keeper Dean Henderson.

And on the hour mark Tuton doubled his tally for the afternoon when he picked up Bolarinwa’s ball forward before cutting inside from the right to produce a near finish in to the corner for 4-0.

Five minutes later Town completed the scoring as Dominic Vose played the ball forward to Bolarinwa and he used his pace to get clear of the Pools defence and stroke a shot beyond Dudzinski.
