The Youth Team will take centre-stage on Tuesday evening when they begin their FA Youth Cup campaign with a First Round trip to Bradford City (7pm kick-off).
John Hewitson has admitted that his young players are determined to enjoy a good run in the prestigious competition but knows they will need to be at their best against The Bantams.
City ran out 3-0 winners when the sides met in Youth Alliance League action just over a fortnight ago and Hewitson insists that avenging that defeat will act as extra motivation for his team.
“The lads are very excited and really looking forward to the game,” he told us.
“Every years it’s the same because this competition means so much to the players – at times you have to try and keep a lid on things and try to keep them calm.
“There has been big anticipation about playing in the FA Youth Cup since the start of the season and that went up a notch when the draw was made.
“We’ve got a chance to put the demons of our last game against Bradford to bed – we didn’t play particularly well that day so we have to go there and put a few things right.
“It would be brilliant to have a good run in this competition; I think we’ve gained confidence from making progress in the League Cup so now our attentions are fully on doing the same in the FA Youth Cup.”
The game at City’s Northern Commercials Stadium kicks-off at 7pm and admission prices are £3 for adults and £1 for concessions.
