Craig Hignett was left frustrated with his team’s performance as they slipped to a 2-1 defeat to Rochdale in their final Checkatrade Trophy group game on Wednesday night.
The Pools boss felt that his players did not produce the kind of display he wanted or that they are capable of as League One Dale went away with all three points to top the group.
“I thought it was poor,” he told Pools PlayerHD.
“It was a good chance for some of the fringe players to give me a problem for Saturday but we didn’t the game anywhere near like we wanted to.
“The quality we showed tonight isn’t close to what we show in training and it’s frustrating because I felt the lads weren’t quite it, whether that was down to the competition or the face we were already out.
“You can’t let yourself do that as a professional though, you have to take every chance you get and tonight I was a bit disappointed with some of them.
“We had flashes and played alright in bits but overall the decision making was really poor.”
