Craig Hignett felt his side were worthy winners as second half goals from Nicky Deverdics and Lewis Alessandra secured three crucial points against Accrington Stanley on Tuesday evening.
The Pools boss was thrilled with the way his side kept going during a difficult first half and then came up with the good after the break to run out 2-0 winners over their Lancashire visitors.
The victory carried Pools above their opponents and in to 13th spot in League Two and Hignett says it was something they fully deserved by the final whistle.
“It’s a great result and it’s what we needed,” Hignett told Pools PlayerHD.
“We wanted to keep the run going at home and now we’ve won the last three and kept three clean sheets as well, which is really pleasing.
“We changed formation tonight and it took a while for us to get to grips with it but we’ve worked on it in training and in the second half we pushed on and were full value for the victory.
“They had a few chances, some good ones in the first half, but credit to the lads because they dug in and in the end it was pretty comfortable.
“We had a bit of luck with their man getting sent-off but we’ve had some tough decisions this season so it was nice to be on the right end of one tonight.
“At 1-0 the game was still in the balance and you never feel comfortable watching but the second goal really killed it and after that it just about seeing it out and being professional.”
