Craig Hignett has completed his first signing as Pools boss with the arrival of experienced defender Rob Jones on a deal until the end of the season.
The Stockton-born centre-back was released by Doncaster Rovers at the start of last month and has spent the last fortnight training with Pools, doing enough to impress new boss Craig Hignett.
The 6ft 7ins defender began his career with York City but has also had spells with Stockport County, Grimsby Town, Hibernian, Scunthorpe United, Sheffield Wednesday and Doncaster during which he’s amassed almost 400 senior appearances.
Now 36, Jones offers just the kind of know-how and experience that Hignett has been looking for and he will now go straight in to contention for a Pools debut in the game at Barnet this weekend.
His last appearance was for Rovers at the end of September but he played for Pools in a behind-closed-doors friendly win at Newcastle United on Wednesday afternoon.
Jones – who scored a last minute equaliser for Doncaster against Pools at The Vic in 2012 -has been handed squad number 29.
