Preview: Newport County v Pools

15 March 2016

We look forward to Tuesday evening's game with everything you need to know ahead of the trip to Newport County.

Newport County v Hartlepool United

Sky Bet League Two

 March 2016 thTuesday 15
Kick-off: 7.45pm

The Story So Far
Newport County have enjoyed an upturn in fortunes since Warren Feeney was appointed boss at Rodney Parade in mid-January.

The Exiles have won six of the twelve games he’s taken charge of, including Saturday’s brilliant 3-0 win over ten-man Portsmouth at Fratton Park.

That improvement in form has lifted them thirteen points clear of the drop zone and, with back-to-back home games on the horizon, they will hope to rubber-stamp their league security in the coming weeks.

One To Watch
Midfielder Mark Byrne has become an important cog in the Newport machine this season – underlined by the fact he’s the only player to have started every game in the league.

The former Nottingham Forest youngster arrived at Rodney Parade on a short-term deal in the summer of 2014 but quickly earned an extension.

Byrne now wears the captain’s armband at Rodney Parade and has been leading by example this term, scoring three goals along the way.

Head To Head
Since Newport County returned to the Football League in 2013, Pools have crossed paths with them on five occasions – and they’ve won two and only lost once.

The 1-0 win over The Exiles in the opening month of the campaign was part of Pools’ stunning start and this weekend offers Ronnie Moore’s men the first chance to complete a double this term.

The only time County have got the upper hand was when they met back in November 2013 when goals from then Newport man Harry Worley and Conor Washington secured a 2-0 triumph at Rodney Parade.

Team News
Craig Hignett will assess the fitness of defender Rob Jones who was forced off with an eye injury on Saturday; Michael Duckworth is still out after hernia surgery.
