Craig Hignett is delighted to have secured the signing of Rob Jones and has insisted that the veteran centre-back will bring all the qualities he was looking for.
The 6ft 7ins defender has spent time training with the Club over the last two weeks and further proved his fitness with an outing for the Reserves in their 3-1 friendly over Newcastle United on Wednesday.
But Hignett says that the decision to bring the 36-year-old in on a deal until the end of the season will give an extra helping hand to a relatively young Pools squad.
Jones will wear number 29 at The Vic and Hignett revealed that he will go straight in to contention for this weekend’s Sky Bet League Two trip to Barnet.
“He’s going to bring experience and leadership,” the Pools boss explained.
“The big thing is that Rob knows the game and has great experience at this level; he’ll talk to people if they need advice or guidance and will I’m sure he will be a big asset for us.
“He’s been a coach and that’s something he wants to keep on learning too – he’s a thinker about the game and he’s been excellent since he’s been in.
“I think we needed someone back there with that experience just to help the other lads and Rob will come in and do that.
“He played in the game we had against Newcastle on Wednesday and did really well so we’ll look at all the options before Saturday’s game and decide what to do.”
