Craig Hignett saw his team pick up their second successive 3-1 victory this afternoon – the first time since August that Pools have recorded back-to-back league wins.
And the Pools boss was delighted to see his team burst into action from kick off, with two goals inside the first 15 minutes,
“It was a great start to the game,” Hignett told Pools PlayerHD.
“We go two goals up and really were comfortable in the game but credit to Dagenham they came back and got a goal and then had us penned back a little bit.
“It got a little bit tetchy towards the end of the first half but in the end, I thought we saw it out quite comfortably.
“It was something we’d said to the lads, we hadn’t started games as well as I want to so I just said we want the first thing you do to be 100mph, I want you right at them, in their faces, on the front foot and I think we did that.
“And to get a penalty in the third minute just settled everyone down and Billy put it away, which was never in any doubt really.
“From then on we relaxed a little bit and got the second goal and I’m thinking then go on, let’s get a third and a fourth. But football isn’t like that, you have to earn the right and I thought we did in the end.
“We’ve put in two really good performances now and won both games 3-1 and I think that sends a message out to everyone else that we’ve turned a corner now.”
And Hignett had an update on defender Rob Jones who went off injured at half time,
“There were a few elbows flying about in the game and he’s got a nasty one and he’s got a bit of a lump under his eye. He didn’t feel right at half time so as a precaution we just brought him off.
“We’ll see what his head is like when it’s clear but we’re hoping he’ll be fine for Tuesday.”
