Pools Ready For Final Friendly Test

29 July 2016

Pools will play their final pre-season friendly on Saturday when Scunthorpe United are the visitors to Victoria Park (3pm kick-off).

Craig Hignett’s men have had a successful warm-up campaign, having spent time training in Tenerife prior to a mixture of domestic friendlies back in the north-east.

Now the final test comes against Graham Alexander’s Scunthorpe side who are fancied to do well in League One in the new season after bringing in several new players during the summer.

Former Pools loan man David Mirfin could play at The Vic on Saturday after sitting out the game against Rotherham United in midweek, while Kevin van Veen could be involved after shaking off a head injury which forced his substitution against The Millers.

Pools boss Craig Hignett welcomes Nathan Thomas back in to his squad after he missed the midweek friendly action due to a knock picked up against Livingston last weekend.

Toto Nsiala is fine to feature against The Iron despite coming off with an ankle injury in Tuesday’s win at Guisborough, but Nicky Featherstone has a groin problem so will sit the game out as a precaution. Jake Orrell remains sidelined with a thigh injury.

Liam Donnelly and Scott Harrison are both expected to be given more game time at the weekend as they look to win deals at The Vic for the new season.

Tickets for the game are priced at just £10 for adults and £5 for concession – they’re on sale now but will also be available to both home and away fans on the turnstiles prior to kick-off.
