Gary Boagey has joined the Club’s Academy staff after accepting the role of Lead Foundation Phase Coach.
The experienced Boagey will take overall responsibility for the Under 8s, 9s, 10s and 11s at the Club, whilst also managing Pools’ Development Centres across the region.
It marks a return to Victoria Park for Boagey, who previously spent sixteen years working part-time in the Academy before a two-year break.
“This is a very good appointment for the Club,” enthused Academy Manager John Hewitson.
“Gary’s first spell here began when our Academy was first being set-up so he’s got a massive affinity with the Club and he knows things inside out.
“He brings a wealth of experience on the coaching front which is fantastic – but he’s not only a good coach but he’s excellent at managing people too so he will be able to pass on his knowledge to the coaches he works with very effectively.
“Gary also had a big reputation in the town for his coaching, having run successful academies and development centres of his own so we’re delighted to have him back on board.”
Boagey has already begun the work ahead of the new campaign and is relishing getting his teeth firmly in to the role now he is back at The Vic.
“I’ve had a break from football but I really missed it and wanted to get back in,” he explained.
“I’m just looking forward to getting everything up and running now and fully operational at the Academy for the season ahead.
“I’m delighted to be given this opportunity and it’s great to be back at the Club full-time now.”
