Craig Hignett will take a strong squad to Livingston on Saturday for their latest pre-season friendly as preparations continue for the new campaign (3pm kick-off).
The Pools boss was happy with aspects of Wednesday night’s display against Sunderland despite defeat and he will look for more improvement at the Tony Macaroni Arena this weekend.
Livi – who are managed by former Crystal Palace and Leeds United midfielder David Hopkins – will play their football in Scottish League One in 2016/17 after being relegated from the Championship last term.
The West Lothian outfit have already begun competitive fixtures this season having played twice in the group stages of the new Betfred Cup and this weekend’s friendly with Pools fills a cap in that schedule for Hopkins’ side.
“They’re already up and running now so their lads will be fit and will give us a big test,” Hignett explained.
“Obviously they’re a bit further down the line than we are so I expect it to be a very competitive game, and more evenly-matched than it was against Sunderland on Wednesday.
“I saw lots of things that pleased me about our progress in midweek and now it’s all about building on that on Saturday and keeping on improving all the time because the season will come round quickly.”
Trevor Carson will miss the trip after being ruled out for a few days with a toe injury, while Rob Jones (bruised foot) and Jake Orrell (thigh) will also miss out on the game. Scott Harrison and and Liam Connelly are both included in the travelling party.
Admission prices for the game are £10 for adults and £5 for concessions.
