Pools' Nomination For Goal Of Year Decided

1 February 2016

Pools defender's wonder-goal chosen as the Club's best of 2015.

Michael Duckworth’s stunning strike at Carlisle United on the final day of last term has been voted Pools’ best of 2015 and will go forward as our nomination for the Mitre Goal of the Year award.

The full-back skipped by several challenges as he drove towards the edge of the box, exchanged passes with Marlon Harewood before smashing an unstoppable first time drive in to the top corner.

Last month we opened voting to let Pools fans decide what had been our best goal of 2015 – and Duckworth’s powerful effort soon emerged as the leading contender.

The strike will now be included as our nomination for the Mitre Goal of the Year at The Football League Awards which take place at Manchester Central on Sunday 17th April.

Fans of all clubs will then be given the opportunity to vote for their overall favourite which will go forward on to a five-goal shortlist – with a winner unveiled on the night of the awards.

In 2013, Pools made the shortlist thanks to James Poole’s brilliant goal against Notts County but he missed out on the top award to Coventry City’s Franck Moussa.
