Hartlepool United Ladies continued their perfect start to the Durham Women’s League campaign by thrashing Bishop Auckland on Sunday afternoon.
The result was never in doubt from the moment Jussy Robinson fired Pools in to a 13th-minute lead, producing a cool finish from twelve yards.
Pools were on the front foot from then on but Bishop Auckland defended with determination and their keeper made some excellent saves to keep them in the game.
However, Pools made it 2-0 just short of the hour mark when good play between Robinson and Sarah Rowbotham freed the latter to smash an angled drive in to the net from just outside the box.
The second half was only a minute old when Pools added a third goal; Robinson picked out Robyn Ingram in space on the right and she took a couple of touches to find an angle for a shot before firing home.
Jade Pye’s neat finish made it 4-0 before Robinson added her second of the game on the back of an excellent team move which was rounded-off with a wonderful curling finish in to the far corner.
The visitors pulled one back with a good finish from just outside the box but Pools had the last say when substitute Lucy Hammond-Garrington outpaced the last defender and calmly converted past the out-rushing goalkeeper.
“Despite the scoreline it was a very competitive game,” explained boss Andy Stuart.
“I thought the difference on the day was our excellent and controlled defensive display, coupled with some quite sublime finishing at the other end.”
The win helps Pools put more pressure on at the top of the table where they have several games in hand on all the teams around them.
