Craig Hignett was pleased with the three points but admitted his side could have enjoyed a more comfortable victory over Morecambe after their fast start on Friday night.
Pools were three goals up inside 24 first half minutes as Padraig Amond volleyed in against his old club before Billy Paynter scored from the spot and then Nicky Featherstone grabbed his second of the season.
However, things got a little more tense after the break when Jim Bentley’s visitors got one back in the early stages and then struck again injury time to bring it back to 3-2 before the final whistle secured Pools’ victory.
“It was a decent performance,” Hignett told Pools PlayerHD.
“I thought we should have won the game more comfortably after the platform we gave ourselves; we played a little differently with three at the back and were different with the ball too and it paid off in the first 25 minutes.
“We scored three good goals and looked solid enough in the first half but it was quite a strange scoreline at half time and players took their foot off the gas.
“At half time I had a bit of a go because we had stopped playing, and once you do that it’s really hard to pick it up again so in the second half we just saw the game out really.
“We were alright without being spectacular but I think we are better than that if I’m being honest and we ended up panicking a little at the end even though it was deep in injury time.
“I knew this would be a battle and a grind but we got on the right end of it so now we go to Accrington in decent spirits and see what we get down there.”
