Pools were knocked out of the FA Cup after falling to a 4-0 defeat to Port Vale.
It was a disappointing afternoon all-round for Pools who put in a below-par performance in this FA Cup Second Round match.
The first half was poor first half as they left the field at half time 3-0 down and the Manager was watching from the stands.
The hosts started brightly, winning a corner as Rob Jones deflected a shot wide after just four minutes.
The first goal came after just 13 minutes as the lively Rigino Cicilia met a cross from the left to score past Carson and make it 1-0.
As the hosts dominated against a fragile-looking Pools back line, the second goal arrived just two minutes later.
Another cross in from the left sailed far post towards Alex Jones and, while the ball did hit the back of the net, it looked to have taken a big touch off Jake Carroll on its way in.
Pools enjoyed a brief respite after the second goal as they pushed Vale back to give the home defence a test. A couple of corners were sent in by both Deverdics and Alessandra but the hosts were able to clear.
But with more men upfield, Pools allowed Port Vale to counter; Jones lost out on the half way line in a battle with Kiko and the hosts pushed on. Taylor picked out Jones with a lovely ball through and he finished low into the back of the net to make it 3-0 on 30 minutes.
And just before the half-time whistle went, Manager Craig Hignett was sent up into the stands by the referee.
The second half didn’t start well either as Sam Kelly tripped over the challenge of Jones inside the box and the referee awarded the penalty.
Ryan Taylor stepped up to take it and made no mistake from the spot as he struck home to make it 4-0 on 56 minutes.
Trevor Carson made a decent save to deny Jones who had pounced on a poor clearance to break through and fire a shot in.
Sub Gezim Shalaj broke past Nsiala to send an effort bobbling towards goal but, despite a slight slip from Carson, the effort went just wide.
Pools saw more of the ball in the later stages of the second half but the damage was done and the hosts were happy to sit back and let Pools do the running around.
And so the game crept to an end and Pools exit the FA Cup at the Second Round stage.
