Craig Hignett has told his team they must take the work they’ve done on the training ground in to Saturday’s game with Newport County at The Northern Gas and Power Stadium (3pm kick-off).
The Pools was left disappointed after seeing his side throw away the lead to lose last time out against Notts County last weekend and is looking for a sharper display on Saturday.
Hignett has been critical of the goals conceded by his side since the start of the campaign and he and Curtis Fleming have done more work in training this week to try and stamp out those problems.
“We’ve had a good week,” he told Pools PlayerHD.
“We had things that we weren’t happy with in last Saturday’s performance so we’ve worked on those and tried to iron them out so we’ll see where we are this weekend.
“Whilst I am pleased with the chances we’re creating and the goals we’re scoring, we can’t keep conceding like we are because the goals against us have been basic ones.
“We have to put a stop to that so that’s been part of the work this week; we’ve let people know what we expect and hopefully we will see that on Saturday.
“We have had Newport watched so we know what they’re about but, like I always say, it’s not about them, it’s about us and if we can set our stall out and play like we can then I’ll feel confident we can win.”
