Craig Hignett was delighted with the character his side showed as they came from a goal down to claim their first win of the season at Exeter City on Saturday.
The Pools boss watched on as second half goals from Michael Woods and Billy Paynter turned the game on its head after the hosts had taken a lead just after the half-hour mark.
“We made hard work of it in the first half and we were well off what we can be,” Hignett told Pools PlayerHD.
“We had words at half-time, changed our shape and a couple of players and it worked a treat because I thought we played really well in the second half and everyone played their part.
“We scored two good goals and we could have had more but to come out 2-1 winners away from home – I’ll take that!
“I always felt like if we could score the first goal they might crumble but it’s hard when you give teams something to hang on to, we did that last week against Colchester too.
“I was pleased with the game management because that’s not always been our strong point since I’ve been here but we’ve been drumming it in to the lads about being professional and they closed the game down really well today.
“The support was brilliant today, as always – they follow us all over and make themselves heard so to do that for them hopefully send them home happy.
“Four points after two games is a good start for us; we have a tough one on Tuesday at Crewe but we’ll look forward to every game now.”
