Craig Hignett insisted that Pools were a match for Oxford United until it came to the final third as he saw his side beaten at The Kassam Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Pools were behind early on when Kemar Roofe scored from close range and, while Hignett’s men enjoyed plenty of possession, they could not find a route to goal and Liam Sercombe secured the hosts’ win with a second in injury time.
“The first half was very good and at times they were chasing shadows,” Hignett told Pools PlayerHD.
“But in the second half we made some bad decisions and caused our own problems really, giving another goal away near the end when we were trying to force it.
“We’ve gifted them their two goals really; they didn’t really do anything to cut us open for the goals so from that point of view it is disappointing.
“I didn’t think we had enough in the final third though and that was the difference in the game.
“It’s no good having all the possession we did because we didn’t have any end product – we perhaps should have scored from a couple of set-pieces in the second half but I didn’t think there was much in the game.”
