Ronnie Moore has challenged his players to keep pace with those at the top of League Two as they begin a tough month of fixtures with an away trip to Wycombe Wanderers.
Last term Pools were beaten 1-0 at Wycombe to drop ten points adrift at the bottom of the table, but Moore is certain that the group of players he has now are much better equipped to tackle The Chairboys.
Gareth Ainsworth’s side have made another excellent start to the season after coming agonisingly close to promotion last time around and Moore knows it will be a difficult assignment on Saturday.
“This will be another tough game for us, there is no doubt about that,” Moore told Pools PlayerHD ahead of a Friday afternoon training session at MK Dons en route to the team hotel.
“They had a fantastic run last year and, to be fair, we should be aiming the same way because it’s a similar club to us.
“The manager has done a good job there; he’s got a little bit of pace in the side and a little bit of strength which is also very similar to ourselves.
“When we played here last season we didn’t play particularly well but could have nicked a result – I’m hoping now that we can go there and counter-attack better with the pace we have in the side.
“The target for us is to try and stay in the top six or seven but that won’t be easy because this month is a really big tester for us with some difficult and long away trips so let’s see how we go.”
