Ronnie Moore was left stunned after seeing his side fall to a heavy defeat to Luton Town despite producing a much-improved performance at Victoria Park.
The Pools boss was once again critical of the defending after seeing more soft goals conceded as The Hatters made it five wins in a row to climb to tenth in the League Two table.
Moore’s men were the better side for much of the contest and created numerous good opportunities to score but were undone by some sloppiness in their own final third.
“I think anyone who wasn’t here and see the score will think we got battered but it was a strange game and I am gobsmacked in a way,” Moore told Pools PlayerHD.
“I thought we were constantly on the front foot in the first half; we got behind them, we had a bit of pace, our wide men did well and it was cruel for us to be a goal behind.
“We got ourselves back in to it with a good goal before half time and then I don’t think anybody in the ground would have seen what was coming after that.
“We’ve had really good, clear-cut chances today but unfortunately they didn’t go in the back of the net – and when they don’t go in the back of the net you have to keep it right at the back door.
“That’s seven goals conceded at home in a week now which is the worrying thing for us so we have to get back to basics and that means working and working and working.”
