Ronnie Moore has called on his players to produce the form he knows they’re capable of when they make the trip to Northampton Town on Saturday.
The Pools boss was left licking his wounds after consecutive defeats at Victoria Park last week but he insists that the squad have got through plenty of work during a positive few days on the training ground.
The 4-1 reverse to Luton Town last Saturday was the toughest to take for Moore who saw his side dominate in terms of possession and chances only to shoot themselves in the foot in defence.
“It’s been a hard week really trying to work out how we managed to lose a game we should have won,” Moore told Pools PlayerHD.
At this present time it feels like every little mistake we’re making is getting punished but that happens in football sometimes – we’ll get some games where it will go for us.
We know conceding seven in two home games is unacceptable so we’ve done a lot of work with the defence and also plenty of work with the strikers too to try and find the back of the net.
“Northampton are flying and it will be tough there but you tell me where we could go in this division that wouldn’t be – it’s about how you perform on the day.
“And if we go there and play the way everyone knows we can then I am confident we can get a good result from the game.”
Pools have not won a game in Northampton for almost 46 years and have had no fewer than 26 winless visits since that 1-0 success back in December 1969.
But Moore has better memories of his most recent trip there and is hoping some of that good fortune can rub off on his players this weekend.
“All I can say is that the last time I went to Northampton as a manager we won 5-1 – but that was against Coventry!” he laughed.
