Renovation work on the Victoria Park pitch accelerated over the weekend as Dave Brown and his team moved ahead of schedule.
The finishing touches to the drainage installation were made on Saturday morning before contractors arrived to strip the surface of the pitch later in the day.
Work continued until almost 10pm on Saturday evening, restarting at 6am on Sunday and continuing until 6pm as the hours were put in to ensure the project progresses quickly.
The next part of the process was some verti-draining on Monday morning which will help protect the pitch against any heavy rainfall during a critical period.
“The pitch is quite vulnerable right now so the verti-draining will help get rid of any surface water,” explained Head Groundsman Brown.
“We’ll be looking to start seeding on Tuesday at which point we will also be scattering top dressing and fertiliser.
“We’re ahead of schedule at the moment because the stripping of the surface was able to happen over the weekend so I’m reasonable happy with the progress.
“We had some unhelpful rain on Friday night but other than that conditions have been kind so although I’m happy now, I’ll be happy when I see some grass breaking through!”
This summer’s major work on the pitch is costing the Club around £30,000 and we’re giving supporters the chance to donate towards it and help Dave and his team return the playing surface to its former glory.
