We put the Pools full-back under the microscope with our series of questions about his past, present and future.
This article was first published in the Matchday Programme for our game against Newport County on Saturday 1st November 2014.
1 Where did you grow up?
A place called Rawcliffe. It must be alright because I still live there now!
2 What was your favourite television programme?
Drake and Josh. It was on when I was quite young and I remember that as well as Zack and Cody – they were both unbelievably good programmes!
3 If you could travel back in time, how far would you go?
I would probably go back to the start of school or maybe around Year 7. It’s probably the best time of your life even though you wished it away so I would go back and do it again.
4 What is the earliest birthday you can remember?
Hmm. I am not very good with memory but I can remember my tenth birthday when we invited all my friends to my house for a party – we had jelly and ice cream too!
5 What is the first FA Cup Final you can remember?
2001. It was Liverpool v Arsenal when Michael Owen scored twice. I remember quite clearly being in a pub watching it with my dad.
6 Which footballer did you look up to as a kid?
Steven Gerrard. It was because when I was younger I used to play centre midfield – but as I got older I didn’t really grow enough so had to change positions! I’ve always looked up to Gerrard though.
7 When did you first play football in a team?
It was when I was five, I started playing for my local team in Rawcliffe. I stayed there until I was ten and then was at York City until I was eighteen.
8 What position did you play when you were younger?
I was a box-to-box midfielder trying to run the show! It didn’t really work out though!
1 What is your favourite television show?
Entourage. I’ve watched them all already but me and Woodsy (Michael Woods) are watching them again on the bus journeys to away games.
2 Who is your favourite comedian?
Kevin Hart, he’s class. He’s the funniest person ever. When Nialle Rodney and Jack Baldwin were here last year we used to always watch him on the bus.
3 What kind of music do you like to listen to?
I like a bit of everything really – RnB, house or some old stuff too so it’s a real mixture of music in there for me.
4 What mobile phone do you have?
An iPhone 5. I’ve just got it fairly recently but it just does all the same things as my last one did!
5 Do you have any annoying habits?
I bite my nails. I don’t do it excessively, probably just when I’m bored. Or nervous!
6 Which current footballers do you admire?
Philipp Lahm, just because he plays in my position and the way he plays is just brilliant – he’s class really, isn’t he?
7 Do you have any pre-match superstitions?
I always try to come out last, I don’t know if people have noticed that? Marlon wanted to when he first came but I bullied him out of it! Haha! And last season I had to argue with Monks for it but it’s just something I’ve always done.
8 What is the best thing about being a footballer?
Well, it’s all still quite new to me but to be doing something you love day in and day out is brilliant. This is the best job in the world.
1 What invention would you like to see happen during your lifetime?
Flying cars. That way you wouldn’t have to sit in traffic would you? There’d be normal cars but they’d be able to fly straight to places!
2 If you could travel in to the future, how far would you go?
I would probably go around 1,000 years in to the future so I could see what the world is like then, that would be pretty interesting.
3 Could you see yourself moving abroad in the future?
Yeah, I wouldn’t mind playing abroad at some point in my career just to experience that. I had a little taste of it when I was in Spain for a couple of weeks at the Glenn Hoddle Academy so I would like to try it some more.
4 What would you like to have achieved by your next birthday?
Well, I guess because it’s at the end of April we should aspire to improve and move further up the league table.
5 Do you think you’ll ever see England lift the World Cup?
No, I wouldn’t have thought so. I don’t think we have enough to get to the level of some of the other countries we’re up against.
6 Which player in the Pools squad do you think could be a manager in the future?
Tommy Miller, I think he wants to go in to management. I could maybe think about it in the future, it’s certainly something I would look at.
7 What other career could you see yourself doing if you weren’t a footballer?
Haha, there isn’t a lot of choice here! It would have to be something to do with sport really – physio, coaching, management, something like that really.
8 What would you like to do when you retire from playing?
I would like to move abroad and live a life of luxury on the beach – is that allowed?!
1 Beer or wine?
Neither – I’m a cider man
2 Indian or Chinese?
3 Coronation Street or Eastenders?
4 Text or talk?
5 Lineker or Chiles?
6 Sky Sports or Sky Movies?
7 The Apprentice or Big Brother?
8 Laugh it off or sulk for weeks?
Laugh it off
