Kieran Green has admitted being in around the First Team during the last campaign has made him even hungrier to prove himself now he’s agreed a professional deal with the Club.
The 18-year-old midfielder earned a call-up to the Club’s pre-season training camp in Spain last summer after working hard to catch the eye of the management team.
He went on to make his debut in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy tie against Sheffield United in October and impressed with a confident and whole-hearted performance.
Now he’s joined the professional ranks, Green says he is ready to push everything else in his life to one side and make sure he gives himself the best platform for success at The Vic.
“I’m relieved and happy to get the deal agreed,” he told us.
“I have been here since I was an Under 15 and it has been really hard work but last year I just wanted to give it a good go and take my chance to prove myself.
“I dug in and put as much hard work in as I could and made sure I took every opportunity that came my way.
“To go to La Cala with the First Team and train over them was brilliant and I’m the type of person who couldn’t really settle for anything less after I’d experienced that.
“Once I had been in and around the senior players I wanted to be with them all the time and those experiences were my extra motivation.
“All season I have just wanted to be in the First Team. To be honest, football is the biggest thing in my life so I just wanted to train every day to get better.
“Making my First Team debut was the best day of my life but it was hard to stay in the team at that time because of the position we were in the table.
“I’m disappointed that I’ve not played more but that just makes me want to work even hard to press my claims when the new season comes around.”
Green says he will be wishing away the summer months as he focuses on making an impact under Ronnie Moore next term and insists he will come back in the best condition possible.
“I know that the hard work starts now and I need to make sure I am ready for it.
“I’ll be bored within a couple of weeks now the season has finished and I’ll be desperate to come back in and get going so hopefully the summer goes by quickly!”
