Ronnie Moore was left furious as his Pools side failed to capitalise on a dominant start to their game against Dagenham & Redbridge before falling to a disappointing defeat at Victoria Road.
It was a result which left Pools seven points adrift of safety at the bottom of League Two and it was a performance which left Moore scratching his head and feeling sympathy for the 123 travelling fans.
“This game was there for the taking; if ever there was opportunity to win back-to-back games this was it but they’re just so inconsistent it’s unbelievable,” he told Pools Player.
“Hand on heart, I really thought this was a game we were going to win – I could smell it when I got here because it was quiet, there was no atmosphere and they looked very, very nervous.
“We were in total control for the first twenty minutes without creating too many chances but we never looked under any threat but then we switched off for their goal.
“If we had scored first we’d have scored five tonight, I’m telling you – but we’ve conceded and after that it was a lacklustre performance with no spark.
“We’ve got over 100 people coming all the way down here to watch that. I told the players that they will stand by you if they see you running about, challenging, closing people down – we had none of that.”
