Pools Reserves won for a third successive game after overcoming Scunthorpe United 7-4 in a bizarre Final Third Development League encounter at Glanford Park on Wednesday.
Jonny Maxted made a couple of smart saves to protect the lead before Pools scored again on 21 minutes – this time Marvin Morgan drove in to the box before lifting the ball coolly over the keeper.
Connor Smith came close to making it 3-0 but some good defending thwarted him before the hosts pulled one back through Dave Syers.
And it was Syers on the spot again to draw the game level with little over five minutes of the half remaining; he was in the right place to fire home the rebound after Maxted had parried a shot.
But before the break Pools were back in front in what was proving to be a real thriller, and Smith got in on the act with a fine finish in to the bottom right-hand corner.
Hawkins was denied a second just after half time when the keeper made a good reaction save, while Morgan also tested the Scunthorpe stopper before Nelson-Addy grabbed his second to make it 4-2.
Confusion at the back for Pools handed their hosts a lifeline when Tommy Miller put through his own net, and with fifteen minutes left it was all-square at 4-4 when Burdett converted a penalty.
Pools were not to be denied though and Morgan helped himself to his second of the game and then trialist Chris Lester drove in a sixth goal to put the game beyond Scunthorpe.
And in injury time Pools added insult with a seventh goal when one of the home side’s trialists scored an own goal as the game ended 7-4.
