Ronnie Moore is delighted to have completed the signing of Billy Paynter and insisted that the experienced front man is just what the Club has been looking for.
Paynter joined the Club on Saturday from League Two rivals Carlisle United to end Moore’s summer-long search for a target man and he will link up with his new team-mates for pre-season training on Monday.
He becomes the seventh new signing to arrive at The Vic since the end of last season and the Pools boss is backing the Liverpool-born 30-year-old to get back among the goals in 2015/16.
“We’ve been looking for a target man for a long time so we’re pleased to get Billy in,” Moore explained.
“He’s got good experience and done well at lower league level so he’s exactly what we’ve been looking for really.
“He’s big, he’s strong, he holds the ball up well and will bring the midfield in to the game and hopefully he can add a few goals for us as well.
“Things didn’t work out well for him at Carlisle but I know what that’s like as a striker – I went to Cardiff and played over fifty times and only scored six goals but then went to Rotherham and got 60 in three seasons.
“I am sure Billy can get back to scoring some goals and help us reach the targets we’ve set for the upcoming season.”
