This pre-season at Pools is more high-tech than ever before with the Club able to use cutting-edge performance monitoring systems.
You may have noticed in our photos from training that the players have been wearing extra equipment on top of their regular kit – allowing staff to closely analyse daily performance.
Head Physio Ian Gallagher is delighted to have struck up a relationship with a company called Perform Better who specialise in performance sport and have provided GPS equipment.
“Thanks to Perform Better we’ve managed to get some GPS systems for the very first time,” Gallagher explained.
“These systems let us monitor in more detail the performances of individual players in training – so we can find out how far they’ve run in a session, how fast they did it and how hard they found it.
“Linked in with our heart-rate monitors we can gain a clear indication of how hard the players are working and it gives us a chance to more closely monitor their fitness levels.
“We’ve already had some great feedback from this week’s training. You can watch sessions and draw your own conclusions about players’ performance but this data allows to back-up that analysis and help the squad improve.
“I think the players themselves are also finding it very interesting because it measures every activity they do – sprinting, accelerating, decelerating – so it can help them get a picture on what they need to work on.
“It will come in to best use when our pre-season games programme begins because every player will be wearing one and the readings we get from those fixtures will be very useful.”
