Ronnie Moore paid tribute to his side’s gutsy performance as Ryan Bird’s debut goal helped them claim three crucial points with victory over AFC Wimbledon.
The front man’s second half close range finish proved the difference between the two side to leave the Pools boss thrilled and see the gap to safety reduced to six points.
“The first half wasn’t good and there’s wasn’t a lot for the crowd to get excited about,” admitted Moore when speaking to Pools Player after the game.
“A few words were said at half time because we were the side that had to win the game – it was no good us coming off with a 0-0 today.
“We wanted to get that their back four more and get in to wide area more to get crosses in to the box and to be fair to Jack Compton he delivered with the cross for Ryan Bird’s goal.
“Without being brilliant, I thought the front two made a difference today; they chased everything and their back four never had a minute’s peace.
“I thought there was always going to be only one goal in the game so it was nice to see us show that commitment and spirit in the second half to keep the clean sheet.
“We said this week was a massive week and at half time it felt like it was passing us by – but they went out and gave their all in the second half and deserved their win.”
