Pools have completed the signing of Scunthorpe United defender David Mirfin on a one-month loan deal.
The experienced centre-back made 49 appearances during The Iron’s charge to promotion from League Two last term and has over 400 senior games under his belt.
A former Huddersfield Town trainee, Mirfin went on to make over 200 appearances for The Terriers between 2003 and 2008 before making a £150,000 move to Scunthorpe.
He joined Watford in the summer of 2011 but returned to Glanford Park on loan in January 2012 before making that move permanent the following July.
“We were looking for some experience to add to our defence and David certainly brings us that,” explained boss Ronnie Moore.
“He knows this division inside out and played a key part in Scunthorpe’s promotion last season so I certainly think he can come in and help Scott Harrison and Dan Jones.
“It also gives us the option to go three at the back if we need to do so there’s a flexibility there which can let us go 4-4-2, 4-3-3 or 3-5-2 when required.”
Mirfin has been handed squad number 29 and will go straight in to contention for Saturday’s Sky Bet League Two game against Portsmouth at Fratton Park.
