Ronnie Moore declared himself happy with the workout despite seeing his side slip to a slender defeat in their final pre-season friendly against Chesterfield on Saturday.
Sam Morsy’s second half goal was enough to give Dean Saunders’ visitors the edge in terms of the result but the Pools boss saw plenty of reasons to be encouraged by his team’s display.
“I thought it was a good game against a good Chesterfield side,” Moore told Pools PlayerHD.
“I was quite pleased with what I saw out there; the goal was a little sloppy but we’ve worked really hard on our defending and overall it was good and we had some decent chances too.
“The lads definitely looked more composed and everyone seems to know what they need to be doing – it’s not simple when you have so many new players but I was pleased with that today.
“There was some good football played at times too and we’re going to score goals; I thought the link-up play from Billy Paynter was good as well as the runs from Nicky Featherstone and Michael Woods.
“I would have loved to have won the game but we can take heart from the way we have performed and I can’t wait for the start of the season now, to be honest.”
