Pools have agreed a deal with Middlesbrough to bring David Atkinson to Victoria Park on a one-month loan.
The 21-year-old has trained with Pools over the last couple of days while negotiations have been ongoing between the two clubs and a deal is now in place for him to join.
Comfortable anywhere across the back four or in midfield, Atkinson has come through the ranks at Middlesbrough and has captained the club’s Under 21 side.
Colin Cooper has always been keen on bringing the versatile youngster to The Vic and is delighted to welcome him in to the squad in time for Saturday’s home game against Portsmouth.
“David is an exciting young player and he’s ready to take on this challenge now,” the Pools boss explained.
“In the past he’s had some trouble on the injury front but there’s no doubting his ability as a footballer and physically he’ll be more than up to the job because he’s in great condition.
“He’s been challenging for First Team football at Middlesbrough until quite recently so we’re really pleased to get him through the door here because he’ll definitely add something for us.”
Atkinson has been handed squad number 27 at Victoria Park and will be part of the weekend squad, subject to Football League approval.
