David Atkinson, Jonathan Franks and Marlon Harewood are among the starters for Pools Reserves in their game at Doncaster Rovers this afternoon (1pm kick-off).
The Reserves have had a mixed start to the season having beaten Burton Albion 4-3 before losing 4-2 at Rotherham United last time out.
And Sam Collins has challenged those involved in today’s Final Third Development League fixture at Rovers’ Cantley Park Training Ground to press their claims for a recall to the First Team.
“We’ve got quite a strong line-up so we want a strong performance from them,” Collins explained.
“I’ve told the lads that if they’re not playing on a Saturday then we want them in the Reserves in midweek so they can make a challenge to get back in the side.
“The lads who are in the First Team at the moment are bang at it so the players in the Reserves need to show us why they should be back in that line-up.
“So far this season we’ve played quite well and created lots of chances but we just need to make sure we keep the back door shut too.”
The Pools starting eleven also includes trialist Alex Holden, son of former Oldham Athletic and Manchester City winger Rick Holden.
We’ll have a full report on the game here on the Official Website following the final whistle.
