Pools Reserves will include three trialists in a strong line-up for tonight’s Durham Challenge Cup tie against West Auckland at Darlington Road (7.30pm kick-off).
Young keeper James Montgomery, midfielder Steven Leslie and winger Sidney Schmeltz are all set to start in the game as Pools begin their cup campaign against the Northern League outfit.
Marlon Harewood and Michael Woods are among seven professionals included in the line-up for the game, for which John Hewitson will take charge.
West Auckland will come in to the fixture full of confidence following a fine 7-2 thrashing of Bedlington Terriers at the weekend in which former Pools man Colin Larkin scored a hat-trick.
“It should be an exciting game tonight,” said Hewitson.
“Some of the players we have involved will be keen to impress the new manager; it’s a good competition to play in and we’ve got a pretty experienced team out there tonight.
“If we play to our potential then that should see us through to the next round but we have to be aware that West Auckland have players who can cause us problems.
“Some of them have played in the Football League and have dropped down and may feel like they have a point to prove so we have to be on our mettle.”
We’ll have a full report on the game here on the Official Website following the final whistle.
