Paul Murray has demanded his players give it their all when they return to League Two action against Southend United at Roots Hall this weekend.

The Pools boss was delighted to secure his first win since being appointed to the Victoria Park hotseat with a 2-0 triumph over East Thurrock last weekend which set up a televised clash against Blyth Spartans next month.

However, Murray is keen for his players to put that competition to the back of their minds and concentrate fully on the main priority – to push themselves away from the bottom of the League Two table as quickly as possible.

While Southend sit seventh prior to kick-off, they are without a win in their last four outings at Roots Hall and Murray says he’s confident Pools can come home with a result.

“The league this weekend is huge for us,” he told Pools Player.

“The FA Cup win took our minds off it for a little while but we’ve been back on it in training this week working towards Southend and we have to go there and give it everything we’ve got.

“They will be looking at us and thinking it’s a great chance for them to get back on track with their home form against a side bottom of the league – I’d be thinking that too.

“But we’re high on confidence and we’re going there knowing they’ve not been great at home lately so we have to take advantage of that, be professional, get in the right mindset and hopefully play some good football.”
