The full-back talks about his favourite roller-coasters, the difference between dinner and tea, and why he once starred as a lost sheep in a play!
So, he’s comfortable tearing up and down the right flank at will – but how at ease is Pools star Michael Duckworth when peppered with a multitude of questions of an increasingly random nature? Let’s find out…
28 Who is the biggest celebrity you’ve ever met?
James Poole – he played for Manchester City! Haha, no it’s probably Alan Shearer – I went to a soccer school and he was there one of the days.
21 Where did you grow up?
I’ve spent most of my time in York, a place called Rawcliffe to be precise which is a really nice place. I was actually born in Germany but I was only there about six months so I don’t qualify to play for them or anything!
7 What is on the walls of the room you are in?
Well I am in the press office at the ground so there are lots of discs, old programmes and signed balls knocking around!
10 Would you ever consider living abroad?
Yeah! I would go for Las Vegas. I’ve not been there before but I’m going there next year. Not to live obviously – unless I can find a club while I’m over there, haha!
23 How many times do you let your phone ring before you answer it?
I always let it ring out and I never, ever answer my house phone. Let’s be honest, it’s never going to be for me or it’s more likely to be a sales person isn’t it?!
88 Do you have a middle name?
Yeah, it’s James. I think it’s alright and it goes well with the rest of my name.
100 Which of your team-mates do you think is the best looking?
Hmm. I would say Greg Rutherford – he’s got a chin-strap beard which is pretty decent!
45 What’s the best rollercoaster you’ve ever been on?
I do like rollercoasters. I’ve been to Thorpe Park so what the one there called, is it Oblivion? No, that’s Lightwater Valley isn’t it? I think the Thorpe Park one is Stealth actually. It’s very good.
37 What do you put on the top of your Christmas Tree?
A star rather than an angel.
81 How many remote controls do you have in your house?
I would say probably about six in total – all for televisions somewhere. Does an Xbox controller count?
14 If you could have lunch with one famous person, who would it be?
I would probably say Steven Gerrard. I’m a Liverpool fan and I’ve always liked him – Brad Walker is the next Gerrard though isn’t he?!
73 What do you call your evening meal? Tea, Dinner or Supper?
Tea. Dinner is at lunch time because dinner and lunch is the same thing. Tea is what you have at night time!
12 Have you ever ridden a motorbike?
No, I haven’t. I would give it a go though, but not while I’m playing football obviously!
38 What do you like on your toast?
I would say jam. It’s like the standard isn’t it? 4-4-2. I like a little bit of butter on first – but not with the same knife!
71 Did you ever star in a play at school?
Yeah, I was in the Nativity Play one year – I played a lost sheep. I had wool all over me to make me look like a sheep. I think it was filmed so it’s probably still out there somewhere!
95 What’s your favourite flavour of crisps?
Prawn Cocktail. Or maybe Pickled Onion Monster Munch, they’re up there. I don’t eat a lot of crisps but I like those two flavours.
87 What jobs did/do your parents do?
My dad is a regional manager of Eddie Stobart, and my mum runs her own books business.
42 Are you scared of spiders?
Yes! It’s my biggest fear I would say – even if they’re only really small. If I walked in to a room and there was a spider there I would have to get someone to get rid of it. I want to know where they come from! And where do they go? Because they’re never in the same place when you go back and look are they?!
85 What nicknames do you have?
Ducky, Jack, Vera, Glen Johnson… Haha! No, Ducky or Ducks are the main ones.
93 What aftershave do you wear?
Paco Rabane Invictus. It’s a new one, I’ve tried that. The other one I like is Bleu de Chanel.
