Reserves In League Cup Action

12 March 2014

Pools Reserves go to Sheffield Wednesday today looking to secure a place in the semi-finals of the Final Third Development League Cup (1pm kick-off).

The competition has been split up in to three mini-groups, with the winners of each and the best-placed runners-up going on to make up the final four.

Pools currently lie second in Group B and, although they are unable to overhaul leaders Mansfield Town, three points against The Owls today could see them go through in the runners-up spot.

Andy Rafferty returns in goal and there are also starting spots for James Poole, Nialle Rodney and Jack Compton for the game which takes place at Wednesday’s Middlewood Road training ground.

“I think there was plenty of disappointment after our defeat at Hull last week so we’re after a bit of a response,” explained John Hewitson, who will once again look after the side.

“We’ve got a few senior players in the line-up and we’re looking to them to take the lead and help the younger players through the game.

“We’re looking forward to it and we know if we get a good result we have the chance to progress in the competition so that has to be the aim now.”

Entrance to the game at Middlewood Road is free.
