We preview this Saturday’s Sky Bet League Two encounter with Wycombe Wanderers at Adams Park (3pm kick-off).
Wycombe Wanderers v Hartlepool United
Sky Bet League Two
Saturday 8th March 2014, 3pm
A run of five games without defeat and two wins from the last three have helped Wycombe Wanderers put five points between themselves and the League Two relegation zone.
Gareth Ainsworth’s men will know that there is work still to be done if they are to preserve the Football League status they’ve held since 1993.
Last time out on home soil they picked up three points against promotion-chasing Chesterfield and will be hoping to carry that on with an Adams Park double-header against Pools on Saturday and Plymouth Argyle on Tuesday.
Pools have lost on each of their last two trips to Buckinghamshire – including a 5-0 loss there last February – though they do have happy memories from 2006/07 when they clinched promotion with a 1-0 win over Wanderers.
Half time substitute Max Kretzschmar scored twice to secure three points for Wycombe Wanderers when they made the journey to Victoria Park in September.
James Poole pulled one back near the end but there wasn’t enough time to build on that and The Chairboys returned south with a first-ever win at Victoria Park under their belts.
Head To Head
Michael Duckworth is unlikely to feature as he continues his recovery from the injury he sustained at Northampton, while Neil Austin also remains sidelined with a troublesome toe injury.
