Defender Neil Austin has become the latest player to commit his future to Pools by signing a new contract at Victoria Park.
It is five years this week since the reliable full-back arrived at the Club from rivals Darlington and he’s gone on to become a key member of the squad since then, making 198 appearances in total.
Austin hit the ground running at The Vic and was voted Fans’ Player of the Year in his first season with the Club, while in 2011/12 he became the first outfield player in ten years to play every single minute of the campaign.
Capable of slotting in anywhere across the back four or in midfield on occasion, Austin played a lot of his football at left-back during 2013/14 before his season was prematurely ended by a toe injury in February.
“I’m delighted to sign a new contract; it’s nice to get pen to paper and I’m already looking forward to coming back,” the 31-year-old told Pools Player.
“It doesn’t seem like two minutes since I signed for the Club and I wasn’t sure I would be here for five years so I’m buzzing now and I just want to get flying now in time for pre-season.”
