H'Angus Hundred: Jonathan Franks

3 June 2014

The winger tells us why he'd never visit Australia, which biscuits are best to dunk and why 7 is his unlikely choice as a lucky number!

We place winger Jonathan Franks in the hotseat and see how he copes with our seemingly endless barrage of increasingly random questions from the H'Angus Hundred index.

7 What is on the walls of the room you are in?
There’s like an African-themed shot on an orange background with the sun setting in the background. That’s in our front room.

28 Who is the biggest celebrity you’ve ever met?
David Beckham. We did an Adidas F50 tournament ages ago which was on E4. There was Beckham, Gerrard and others who were sponsored by Adidas too. I was on Damien Duff’s team.

37 What do you usually put on the top of your Christmas tree?
A star I think.

16 What’s the furthest away place you’ve ever been?
Probably South Korea. I went there for the Under 17 World Cup, it was brilliant. We were treated like royalty, it was red hot and we got to spend about four or five weeks there.

69 If you were the ruler of your own country, what would you call it?
Hmm, I don’t know. Something with Franks in it I guess? Maybe the Wonderful World Of Franks?

82 What is your favourite biscuit to dunk?
Well, my favourite biscuit is shortbread so I would go with them. I am a massive fan of biscuits though, that’s my downfall. I’m not sure if shortbread is good to dunk – I think I prefer ginger biscuits, especially the ones my grandma used to get from the market.

90 What’s the best piece of advice anyone has ever given you?
Trust no-one!

99 Which team-mate would you not mind dating your little sister?
Haha, Jordan Richards. And that’s not only because he’s probably my best pal at the Club but also he’s a nice lad and I know he would never treat her badly.

44 Who’s your favourite celeb with the same first name of surname as yourself?
Well, the only famous Franks I can think of is Frank’s Factory Flooring – he loves carpets, him! I don’t like Jonathan Ross much, but there’s Jonny Wilkinson I guess too.

77 You are walking to work. There is a dog drowning in the canal on the side of the street. Your boss has told you if you’re late once more, you will be fired. Do you save the dog?
Oh God, I would like to think I would save the dog. I think that would be my natural instinct in that situation. Surely you’d be able to get someone from the RSPCA to phone up my boss and try to save my job?

26 What shoe size are you?
I am probably a nine but I try to wear an eight because it makes my feet look smaller because I’m not the tallest of people. I wear size nine in football boots though.

34 Would you rather swap some intelligence for looks or some looks for intelligence?
Well, I’m not very intelligent so I would probably go for swapping some looks for a bit more intelligence given the choice!

78 If you were a wrestler, what would your stage name be?
Erm, it would have to be Jonathan ‘Thunderous’ Franks.

94 What would you put on your chips?
Well, I would have probably always have said tomato sauce but the last few years I have taken to having a sweet chilli sauce.

51 Which foreign language did you learn at school?
German. I passed it too, I got a C! Guten tag, ich hiesse Jonathan, Wie heist du! I just know the usual chit-chat.

89 Who is the most intelligent person you know?
I’m not sure if they’re the most intelligent, but Jonathan Grounds is the most intelligent footballer. He is quite bright and could be a clever boy if he wasn’t a footballer.

2 What is your biggest fear?
Probably either snakes or failure. I think you have to stand up to your fear or failure though but I’m not sure I could stand up to snakes so they win the vote on that!

10 Would you ever consider living abroad?
Yeah, I would definitely give it a try. I’d go anywhere apart from Australia – there are just so many snakes there aren’t there? My mate works over there and he’s always pestering him to go and visit him but I’m too scared because of all the snakes and spiders!

17 Are you a good cook?
I used to be but my missus does most of the cooking now so I’m a bit out of touch. To be honest, I prefer baking cakes and stuff like that rather than cooking meals.

25 What’s your lucky number?
I don’t really have a lucky number but I’ve always liked number 7. There’s no reason really, I’ve just always liked it even though it’s an odd number. I hate odd numbers usually, 7 is probably the only odd number I like!
