Firsts And Lasts: Andy Rafferty

We put Andy Rafferty under the spotlight as we discover some nuggets of information about our goalkeeper.

Firsts

What was the name of your first pet?
It was a dog called Henry. It was a Labrador but it was a right nutcase, daft as a brush!

What was your first car?
It was a green Vauxhall Corsa; it wasn’t the best and then it blew up!

What was the first thing you learned to cook?
I’m not great in the kitchen but I’ll say lasagne.

What was your first holiday abroad?
It was to the South of France, Bordeaux I think.

What was the first concert you went to see?
It was The Foo Fighters at Newcastle – it was a long time ago!

What was the first football match you went to see?
Well, the first one I can remember was when Newcastle beat Manchester United 5-0 and Phillipe Albert scored that chip!

Who was your first best friend and are you still friends with them now?
It was a lad called Chris; we keep in touch now but not that close really.

What was the first thing you did this morning?
Had a shower I think.

Who is the first person in your phonebook?
Adam Martin, he’s a good friend of mine.

When was the first time you realised you had a chance of turning pro?
I think probably when I’d been training with Middlesbrough and then came to Pools for my trial.

What was your first match as a professional?
It was against Tranmere Rovers and it ended in a draw. I was nervous and excited before the game but just really enjoyed it.

Can you remember the first goal you scored?
It was in a Sunday League game – a free kick came in from the left and I got a glancing header to it. I was playing up front obviously, not in goal!

What was the first football team you played for?
I think it was Durham County Boys when I was about 11.

What your first mobile phone?
It was a Motorola Brick – with a big aerial!

What was the last thing you watched on TV?
It was Benefits Street last night.

What was the last thing you bought?
I went for a coffee with James yesterday so I bought that.

What did you do for your last birthday?
I was actually Best Man for one of my mates and it was his stag do in Zante on my last birthday so it was superb!

What was the last thing you took a photograph of?
It was a screenshot of possible holiday destinations to send to my mates.

What was the last thing you had to eat?
My Weetabix this morning.

What was the last match you went to (that you weren’t playing in)?
It was Guisborough Town v Northumbria Uni a couple of months ago.

What was the last song you listened to?
It was this morning in the car – Night of the Hunter by Thirty Seconds To Mars.

What was the last film you watched?
I watched A Few Good Men when it was on television recently.

Who was the last person to text you?
My mate David, who I used to go to school with.

What was the last album you downloaded?
It was Radio One’s Dance Anthems.

What was the last qualification you gained?
Probably when I became a qualified joiner, though I got laid off by the fella and he still owes me money!

Describe the last goal you scored.
Well, look above because the first one I scored is the only one I’ve scored!
