Help Us Create Wall Of Colour At Vic

24 July 2014

Colin Cooper is calling on Pools supporters to show their true colours for Pools’ opening home match of the new season against Bury on Saturday 16th August.

As the new Sky Bet Football League season kicks-off, fans across the country are being set the challenge of creating a ‘Wall of Colour’ at their side’s opening home league match.

Fans can get involved by donning their club’s famous colours, as well as finding the most innovative ways to show off their love for their team through social media using #WallofColour.

Pools will be looking to kick-off the new season in style, with the first home result often proving a useful pointer to a team’s prospects for the season ahead.

Last season, none of the 10 clubs that won promotion from the Sky Bet Championship, League One or League Two lost their first home league match. Additionally, none of the 9 clubs that were ultimately relegated won their opening home game.

Pools boss Cooper is looking to Pools fans to play their part in getting by making Victoria Park a sea of blue and white, and creating a memorable atmosphere to inspire the team.

“We saw last season what kind of impact our fans can have when they really get behind the team,” he told us.

“Obviously that home game against Morecambe really stands out as an occasion when the fans roared us on to the result we needed despite it looking as though things were going against us.

“If we can ask the fans to set the tone by turning up in their colours and in fine voice for the first game at The Vic this season then that could help us build some early momentum for a good campaign.”

Throughout the day on 16th August we’ll be asking Pools fans to send us their photos showing off their colours on the way to the game, at the game or after the final whistle and we'll share the best to celebrate the #WallofColour.

Shaun Harvey, the Chief Executive of The Football League, said: “The beginning of the new season is always a special time, with supporters full of hope and expectation that this season is going to be their year.

“It’s great to see Colin Cooper calling on fans to create a Wall of Colour at Victoria Park and I hope that Pools supporters rise to the challenge.

“Every side will want to make a strong start to the new season and the three points on offer could go on to make all the difference when the trophies are being handed out next Spring.”
