Marlon Harewood has revealed that the opportunity to work for Colin Cooper was the key factor behind his decision to sign for Pools.
The striker put pen to paper on a deal at Victoria Park on Monday morning and will go straight in to the squad for Saturday’s League Two trip to Fleetwood Town.
Harewood still vividly recalls his days as a Nottingham Forest youngster when he was aiming to emulate the example laid down by Cooper – then an integral part of Forest’s line-up.
So when the Pools boss made contact with the now 34-year-old front man to ask if he wanted to join him at The Vic, the memories came flooding back and the adrenaline began pumping.
“Colin is definitely one of the reasons I’ve come here,” Harewood told Pools Player.
“I looked up to Colin at Nottingham Forest so for someone like that to come and ask me to help out in what he’s trying to achieve here was a no-brainer for me really.
“I have missed the game as soon as I came out of it so when Colin phoned me I felt like this was a great opportunity for me to get back in so I’m very excited about it.
“When he told me what he has in place here it really swung it for me and I was keen to be part of it and help him succeed in implementing his plans.
“I hope I am able to bring what Colin is looking for – the way he’s talking is that we just need that little bit of edge and when he says things like that it makes me excited and makes me want to do well.
“I’m looking forward to playing now, scoring some goals and helping the lads out with the hard work they’ve been putting in to the games.
“Colin speaks very highly of the players he has here so I’m keen to be part of it and I am really going to enjoy it.”
