Colin Cooper has told his players they must combine the positive elements from the last two games when they host high-flying Scunthorpe United on Saturday.
Pools ground out a 2-0 win over York City in a scrappy encounter last time out on home soil, while their fluent football went unrewarded during a frustrating midweek trip to AFC Wimbledon.
The Pools boss says that finding the right blend between solid and stylish could hold the key to his young team re-discovering the glittering form of which he knows they are capable.
“We have to try and mix what we did in the last two performances,” Cooper told Pools Player.
“We want to be hard to beat like we were against York, but also show the belief to go and play our football like we did at Wimbledon.
“I want us to send the fans home happy, and I’m sure they were after last Saturday even though when I analysed that game afterwards I thought we were poor.
“I’ve watched that game back two or three times and we didn’t play well yet we’ve won 2-0, but then we then go to Wimbledon and pass them off the park and end up losing.
“It’s the way football works sometimes but we have to eliminate the individual bits that hurt us on Tuesday but still have the confidence to show that we’re more than a match for anyone.”
