Colin Cooper praised the battling qualities of his team and hailed the point-earning wonder strike from Brad Walker following the 1-1 draw at Southend United.
The Pools boss admitted he felt pride at seeing his players put their bodies on the line to keep the home side at bay and felt that they more than deserved their share of the spoils at Roots Hall.
“They’ve given each other everything out there,” Cooper told Pools Player.
“I said at half time when we were a goal down that we had to try and pull together because that was the only way we were going to get back in to it – and my goodness did they do that in the second half.
“The relationship between me and Craig is brilliant; I love seeing people blocking shots, diving around and putting their bodies on the line but he hates all that and only wants to see us being creative at the other end!
“But when I see two people flying out to block a shot on the edge of the box, or Darren Holden blocking a shot on the line it makes me smile – and on the back of that what really made us smile was the technical ability of our 17-year-old.
“We can work on him and try to make him better but you can’t teach that kind of strike – it was brilliant.
“On every away trip we’ve always said ‘can we come away with something?’ and we’ve not been too disappointed that often this season; tonight I can’t be disappointed at all, I have to say I’m very proud of the efforts the boys put in.”
